Grahame Oakey is an established designer, fine furniture maker and artist in wood who has been practising for over 20 years. He uses up to 200 different species of timber and veneer from merchants who trade in timber from sustainable forests.

The work Grahame produces ,whether furniture or art, has a creative ,precious quality to it. During his career, Grahame has developed a fascination of gemstones and their use in wood. He does not use conflict diamonds and gemstones.

He began setting gemstones into parquetry art some 20 years ago, developing and creating abstract forms. Using lapidary techniques, he carves gemstones to use along side facetted stones. His work is a new form of contemporary wall art using parquetry and lapidary techniques in a 21st Century style .Setting diamonds, emeralds, rubies and precious stones into beautiful veneered surfaces of parquetry.

Grahame believes that the beauty and natural energy of stones ,whether facetted or carved ,should be enjoyed by as many people as possible as often as possible . His passion for colour, texture and light achieved through mixing these very different mediums often drawing from nature itself, creates a sublime mix.
